When I first starting using more arguments for "whois" I found it surprising that "-r" turned *off* recursion rather than turning it on. Don't most other UNIX programs work that way? However some people use whois to find out contact details in the event of spam complaints. We'd need to ensure the correct abuse email addresses were in the first main object returned by a query or advertise the "-r" option in more places.
