Hi, On Tue, Apr 07, 2015 at 01:58:03PM +0200, Erik Bais wrote: > Are you going to formally introduce yourself to the mailing list for those > that might not know who you are and what your shoe size is ? > > And can we expect the usual election talks / promises on where we are going > in the next period with you at the helm ... > > Personally I would like to know what we are getting ourselves into ... ;) Well, if you ask so nicely :-) - here's the short form Gert Doering * age 42 * shoe size 47, preferrably wearing sandals * university diploma in physics, but into networking since about 22 years * the ISP I work for is SpaceNet, AS5539 - a regional ISP in Munich, DE, who provides mostly "datacenter" and "managed hosting" services these days (but used to provide access, so I know both sides of the medal) * hands-on-geek - network, peering, unix admin - and long-time LIR contact, so I know both the operational side of "IP networks" and the bureaucracy side of "I want a Class C network!" - "here's a /29" haggling. * attending RIPE meetings since RIPE 24 in Berlin, 1996 (missing two since then, Dublin I and Prague II) * address policy working group co-chair since RIPE 44 in Amsterdam, 2003 (https://www.ripe.net/ripe/meetings/ripe-meetings/ripe-44/meeting-report) - then still called the "LIR working group". And now for the future plans * listen to the community and to the RIPE NCC RS on where current policy causes avoidable friction * guide policy proposals through the PDP, finding ways that solve the problem at hand *and* get consensus from the community (or accepting failure if something is just not agreeable) * and *not* having personal ambitions here besides "help in creating policy that is easy to follow, distributes resources in a as-fair-as-possible way, and is good for the Internet" I think the last part is especially important: the APWG chairs should *not* follow their own agenda, but help and guide the community in agreeing on policy. While I do have opinions (galore!), as the AP WG chair, it's not my job to push for my personal goals. Of course there is: * find and push volunteers to actually write up policy documents that reflect what was discussed at RIPE meetings, so things are not forgotten but followed through :-) Basically - I intend to continue doing what I've done the last couple of years. "Continuity in this space". Eventually, I expect to wind down the AP WG as we'll have achieved a point where policy is perfect, and we do not need to have the WG actively meet every meeting anymore. But this is still some time away. Gert Doering -- NetMaster -- have you enabled IPv6 on something today...? SpaceNet AG Vorstand: Sebastian v. Bomhard Joseph-Dollinger-Bogen 14 Aufsichtsratsvors.: A.
