Dear Colleagues, We are looking for colleagues with in-depth understanding of routing operations to offer 10 to 15 minutes of your time to answer a questionnaire about risks related to inter-domain routing. We would like to explore your experience in this matter (both problems and solutions), how organisations see this area in terms of potential impact on the business, and what you think could usefully be done at European (or global) level to improve routing security, overall. The results will only be presented publicly in aggregate form, in such a way that it will not be possible to attribute specific remarks to your organisation, unless you give explicit permission to do so. Results will be presented to the community in different fora, e.g. RIPE Routing Working Group meeting, email lists, and a report. Your contribution is of essential importance, as we need to know what the issues really are that we are all facing. It is for that reason that we target the people that know best: network operators and inter-domain routing experts from various organizations and companies. The questionnaire is made available via SurveyMonkey, and can be found here: . Thank you for your participation in this survey. Kind regards, Benno Overeinder (NLnet Labs) Olaf Kolkman (NLnet Labs) Jaap Akkerhuis (NLnet Labs) Maarten Botterman (GNKS Consult) ---- About this study: NLnet Labs and GNKS Consult are independent contractors on this study that is commissioned by the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA). For ENISA the purpose of the study is stocktaking of the deployment of routing security technology. The results will be used as a basis for further work on routing security and its deployment. NLnet Labs and GNKS Consult motivation to perform this study is to gain an understanding of the current use of routing security technologies by IP service providers, their state-of-the-art deployment and impact on network resilience. In particular: - NLnet Labs (http://nlnetlabs.nl) wants to use the outcome of the study as a means to plan its own chartered activities; development of open standards and open source software and tools to further security of the Internet. - GNKS Consult provides independent policy advice and is specialised in ICT and Internet policy matters. GNKS and NLnet Labs believe that a neutral studies with a technical underpinning are essential during any stage of public sector involvement, specifically during stocktaking exercises, hence our involvement in an ENISA study. We feel that establishing this bottom line on the state-of-the-art seems to be timely, and useful, as we (the community) needs to be able to consider whether more should be done.
